SBW 2014 Commitment Watch

This is a big weekend for MSU in recruiting as they will be having numerous events and also hosting a lot of recruits. There is always a chance when recruits get to campus on a big weekend with their families that a commitment could happen. I’ve been formulating a list of possibilities for this weekend. Key word is possibilities.

I’m working under the thinking that there may not be any commitments but if there were, this is how I would classify them.

More Likely to Commit

DE Keith Joseph (85 3-star) Pascagoula, MS- After receiving his MSU offer on March 24th, it’s been widely speculated that the MSU legacy would end his recruitment soon. Could this be the weekend?

OL Tommy Champion (83 3-star) Jackson, MS- MSU has long been the leader for Champion and he had a visit 2 weeks ago where he had a chance to see everything. Was that enough time to make a decision and will he return and make a pledge to Mullen and staff?

ATH Malik Dear (96 4-star) Jackson, MS- 14 of Dear’s 15 247 Crystal Ball predictions are for MSU (only dissenter being Rebel 247 David Johnson’s for Ole Miss) and many consider it just a matter of time. If he can attend with momma, could that be all she wrote for one of the state’s elite?

Long-Shots to Commit

DE Gabe Campbell (NR) Yazoo City, MS- The monstrous defender has long had MSU at the top of his choices and I’m sure Tim Washington is pushing for him to join him. Could this be the weekend?

WR Justin Johnson (84 3-star) Birmingham, AL- MSU has always been at the top for Johnson. He’ll probably wait a bit longer bu it wouldn’t shock me if he pulled the trigger this weekend.

RB Nick Gibson (90 4-star) Pinson, AL- It’s been an MSU and Bama battle for Gibson but he even said that he may commit to MSU on his next visit. If he shows up with family, could it be over for this big-time, out-of-state ball carrier?

QB Nick Tiano (83 3-star) Chatanooga, TN- Tiano received his MSU offer on April 1rst and all reports were that he was ecstatic. I’m not sure if it’s confirmed that he is coming but should he come, I wouldn’t be shocked if he made the call to Mullen.

OL Lowell Furlow (NR) Plantersville, AL- MSU is Furlow’s only offer and rumor is that it is committable. If he can make he travel arrangements with his family, this is another one that wouldn’t shock me if it happens.

OL Matt Womack (83 3-star) Hernando, MS- Wommack does not have an offer yet but I feel like one is coming soon from MSU. This could be the weekend if he visits. I would still expect him to wait a bit but it wouldn’t shock me if he commits to his first SEC offer. This one is a slim chance but I’m throwing it out there.

The Surprise Guy- A lot of times us fans don’t know near as much as we think we do about current recruiting situations and a guy we weren’t expecting pulls the trigger. Does someone like J’Mar Smith take the heavy Nick Tiano interest as a threat to his spot and push him to an earlier decision than anticipated? Does a guy get an offer earlier than expected and commit on the spot? No one knows the answers to these questions but the speculation is what makes these big weekends fun.
